Pernau (Pernov, Pärnu), Red Tower

Pärnu Castle. Pärnu was founded in 1251 as a Catholic diocese seat. In 1265 the Order started the construction of a castle in the vicinity, whose only remaining artefact is the Red Tower (Hommiku 11) which was used as a prison in those days. This allows considering it as a site of commemoration of the Livonian war and associating it with the end of life of Fellin mercenary defectors of Master Wilhelm von Fürstenberg in 1560.
