Ula

An eight-tower wooden fortress was founded on October 12, 1566 by the Russian troops at the confluence of the Ula and Western Dvina rivers. In February-March 1568, the troops of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania under the command of Jan Chodkiewicz besieged the fortress for three weeks, but could not take it. On August 20, 1568, Roman Sangushko's detachment took the fortress and burned it. This place later remained with the Lithuanians. They tried to put a wooden tower there and restore the castle. The Russians tried to fight him off, but could not.
