Roslavl

The founding of the city dates back to the middle of the XII century, it is mentioned in sources from the beginning of the XIII century. Roslavl (Rostislavl') was a border fortress, was attacked by the Grand Duchy of Lithuania for many times. In 1358 it was annexed by the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, in 1515 it was taken by Russian troops. But it's return to the Russian state was approved only by the treatment of 1522. During the Russian-Lithuanian war of 1561-1570 Roslavl defeated the attacks of the Lithuanian troops.
The medieval Roslavl was located at the place called "Burtseva Gora".
