58 ° 54'20 ″ N. 24 ° 06′14 ″ E.

The castle was founded around 1234-1238 as the possession of the Bremen family of Lode. Its representatives were vassals of the Ezel-Wick bishop. In 1439 it came under the rule of the bishop. The castle was twice in the center of events during the Livonian War. In 1560 it was besieged by the resurrected Estonian peasants. The castle asked for help from the Danes and the Poles at the same time, the uprising was suppressed, the massacre of the rebels took place right outside the walls of Lode Castle. After the transfer of the Ezel-Wick bishopric in 1560 under the rule of the Danish Duke Magnus, the castle was considered Danish. In 1564 the castle was taken by the Swedes during the Northern War of 1563-1570. In 1573, a big battle between Russian and Swedish troops took place near the castle walls. In 1576, the Russians took the castle and owned it until 1581, when it passed to Sweden. .
