Fortified church Church of St. Catherine and St. Nikolay, Karja, Saaremaa

The fortified church of the late 13th - early 14th centuries was built by architects from the island of Gotland, on the site of a wooden church, known since 1254. It was badly damaged during the Estonian uprising in 1343. The temple has preserved Gothic sculpture and decor, the interior decoration is one of the richest and beautiful in the Baltic region.
