Ringen

 The castle was founded around 1340 as the castle of the vassal of the Dorpat bishop. It was famous for the Chapel of the Holy Cross located in the castle. In 1558 it was taken by the troops of Ivan the Terrible, the castle is famous for the siege in the fall of 1558, when a small Russian garrison defeated the attacks of the Livonian Order under the command of Gotthard Kettler. After 1582 the castle was given to the Commonwealth, in 1583 it was transferred to the Jesuits. In 1625 the ruined castle became the property of Sweden.
